Embrace a Simple Life

It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the busy-ness of everyday life. We find ourselves rushing form one task to the next, often along by our responsibilities and promises that we have made to get things completed on a deadline. However, when we simplify our lives, we can experience greater fulfillment, less stress, and an increase in overall happiness.

 

Living a simplier life doesn't necessarily mean living without ambition or comfort. It's more about removing distractions and prioritizing what matters to you.

 

Choosing simplicity encourages us to evaluate our priorities, and fosters mindfulness so you can appreciate each moment.

 

The following steps are a simple guide to get you started on the path to living a simplier life.

 

  1.  Declutter Your Space: A cluttered space can be stressful and distracts us from what we want in life. Take a few small steps to start decluttering your life:

     

    • Keep it Simple: Focus on one room at a time. For example, if you have a home office, dedicate just 10-15 minutes each day to sorting through papers and items on your desk.

       

    • The Label Method: Label four boxes as “Keep,” “Donate,” “Sell,” and “Trash.” For example, while cleaning out your closet, if you find clothing you haven’t worn in over a year, put them in the "Donate" box. The genral rule of thumb is if you haven't used it for a year you probably don't need it.

       

    • Digital Clutter: Go through your emails daily and unsubscribe to those you rarely read. It's important to organize your files and place them into labeled folders for easy access and readability.

       

  2. Simplify Your Schedule: A crowded schedule often leads to burnout. It's fine to have a full life, but keep in mind the stress you are creating for yourself if you say yes to everything.

     

  3. Mindful Consumption: Being mindful about what you purchase can greatly support a simpler lifestyle. Before making any purchase, ask yourself if it’s genuinely necessary. Use the maxim "do I love it or need it". If the answer doesn't come immediately than do not buy it.

     

  4. Meaningful Relationships: Simplifying life often involves focusing on the depth of relationships over their number. Surrounding yourself with supportive people who uplift you makes all the diiference in how your feel. If certain relationships drain your energy, consider spending less time on those connections or even let them go.

     

  5. Healthy Choices: Mindfulness practices like yoga, meditation, spending time in nature, and eating a healthy diet creates a more balanced and satisfying lifestyle.

 

Choosing a simpler life is a continuous journey that requires reflection and mindfulness and an acceptance that it is a path that is very personal and individual. By decluttering your space, simplifying your schedule, embracing mindful consumption, nurturing meaningful relationships and developing healthy habits, you can build a life full of purpose and fulfillment.
