We all want to be happy, calm, and relaxed but living in a fast-paced world makes it challenging. Think about it, the amount of information we receive in one day is more than people received in their entire lifetime just 100 years ago. That's crazy!
This constant bombardment of information can lead to anxiety, fatigue, depression, and insomnia. One thing is clear, for thousands of years humans have been trying to gain control of their minds. The easiest way to do this is through your breath.
We all have the potential for a disease-free body and focused mind. It only requires the desire and willingness to put in a little time.
The biggest culprit in engaging in a breathwork meditation practice is stress. Stress is when you have too many things to do and not enough time to get them done. Can you do anything about the amount of work you have to do in your life? Not really.
We all have the same 24 hours in our day. The only thing you can change is the amount of energy you have.
Here's the good news: Engaging in simple breathwork patterns can increase your energy, allowing you to complete everything you need in your day while decreasing your stress.
The second cause of stress occurs in our minds. The mind tends to fluctuate between the past and worrying about the future. This constant facilitation of the mind adds so much stress to our day.
The breath is a powerful tool for bringing our minds back into the present moment, where life is lived. It is the link between the mind and the body, the pathway to a healthy body and a peaceful mind.
Without the background noise from an overactive mindset, you can accomplish your daily tasks with more energy and time. This is what a daily breathwork practice can do for you. You'll be happier, healthier, more energized, and more focused.
Unlike meditation, where we are aware of our mental chatter, breathwork allows us to disconnect from the mind and reconnect with our body and energy. We can heal, grow, and expand from this elevated state of awareness.
Breathwork can be easier to drop into when you want immediate feedback. It's a great tool to pull out when feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or off-center.
Some common sensations you might experience during breathwork include tingling, buzzing, warming, cooling, or tightness in parts of your body. You may see colors or images or have downloads and insights. No matter what, whatever is happening is supposed to be happening. Your body has an innate intelligence and wisdom and will support you in releasing what no longer serves you.
Three Power Aspects of Breathwork:
The first benefit of breathwork is that the innate wisdom of your breath and life force knows exactly where to go to heal your body. The breath opens meridians and channels and aligns your body with its inherent and universal energy. This is how healing happens. There is no need to think, process, or figure anything.
Second, you'll feel empowered. Your breath can become the source of answers to questions, insights to challenges, freedom from feeling stuck, and downloads to what's next for you, your life, and your work.
Third, you'll gain new perspectives on life's challenges. Breathwork can help you receive insights from ancestors and loved ones who have transitioned. It can also bring downloads from the universe about work, creativity, finances, relationships, or health conditions.
Start the year off right with a breathwork practice. You'll be happy you did!

Meditation & Longevity

Meditation is a focused mental exercise that often incorporates mindfulness to cultivate inner peace, relaxation, and self-awareness. These qualities contribute to our overall health.
Meditation helps lower stress levels by activating the relaxation response, which can counteract the harmful effects of chronic stress on our bodies and support longevity.
It has been shown that regular meditation practice has been linked to enhanced immune system function, which is vital for maintaining good health and preventing illness. In addition, meditation improves sleep quality which is essential for good health.
To reap the benefits of meditation for longevity, consider incorporating these practices into your daily routine:
Mindful Breathing: Set aside a few minutes daily to focus on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth, paying attention to the sensation of the breath entering and leaving your body.
Body Scan: Lie down or sit comfortably and mentally scan your body from head to toe, bringing awareness to any areas of tension or discomfort and allowing them to relax.
Guided Meditation: Use guided meditation apps, podcasts, or videos to follow along with experienced meditation teachers who can provide step-by-step instructions and support.
Walking Meditation: Choose a quiet, peaceful location for a slow, mindful walk, focusing on the sensation of each step and the feeling of your body moving through space.
Give yourself the mental hygiene you need to improve the quality of your life while adding a few more years to it.
Develop a routine so the practice becomes easy. When you realize the enormous benefits, you will not miss a day.

Ancient Wisdom & Modern Day

Are there ways to bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern-day technology? There is. Think about the endless apps that provide guided meditation sessions, remind us to breathe deeply, and even monitor our mental well-being.
How about the apps that can track natural cycles—sunrise and sunset times, moon phases, and even the best times to plant or harvest based on lunar cycles? These tools can become the bridge between ancient wisdom and your digital lifestyle. You can set your work schedule to begin at sunrise and end by sunset or follow the moon phases for reflective and renewal meditations.
In the teachings of ancient philosophies, there’s a strong emphasis on simplicity and minimizing distractions to achieve a state of deeper focus and understanding. Think about using technology to support your goals and values, rather than letting it dictate the pace and direction of your life.
One of the most profound teachings across various ancient wisdom traditions is the concept of interconnectedness. This principle teaches us that we are all connected in the web of life and our actions have a ripple effect on the world around us.
Modern-day technology enables us to connect with people around the globe. In embracing this aspect of modern technology with wisdom and good intentions, we align ourselves with the timeless values of interconnectedness and compassion.
Think about this. Digital platforms can act as an opportunity to tell our stories. It's a perfect way to bring back the ancient story-telling activity where we can share profound moments.
What about the ancient wisdom regarding impermanence? I recently lost my Facebook page to a hacker and with it all my photos and memories. That was a rude awakening that nothing lasts forever, even your digital footprint.
Finally, and maybe the most impactful, is gratitude. The next time you are scrolling through your social media be grateful that you live in a time where you can experience such technology and use it begin using it as a tool for reflection and appreciation.
